What suburbs do you cover?

A-Class Drive Academy provides driving lessons across Melbourne’s north and surrounding suburbs, including Carlton, Northcote, Preston, Fairfield and nearby areas. Lessons can also be tailored to locations that best support your learning and test preparation.

Can I be picked up and dropped off at different locations before and after my lesson?

Yes. We offer flexible pick-up and drop-off options to suit your schedule, including home, school or work. This also allows you to gain experience driving in different environments.

Can a parent or guardian attend the lesson?

Yes. A parent or guardian is welcome to observe from the back seat. This can help reinforce what is taught during the lesson and support your practice outside of lesson time.

How many hours of practice driving do I need before I can sit my driving test?

In Victoria, you must complete at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including a minimum of 20 hours of night driving, before sitting your driving test. Additional professional lessons can help ensure you are fully prepared.

What type of transmission do you teach in?

All lessons are conducted in an automatic vehicle.

What vehicle will I be learning in?

All lessons are conducted in an automatic Mercedes-Benz A-Class, offering a safe, smooth and comfortable learning experience with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Do I need a learner permit before starting lessons?

Yes. You must hold a valid learner permit and bring it with you to every lesson.

How should I prepare for my first driving lesson?

Before your first lesson, it’s recommended that you:

✔ Study the Road to Solo Driving Handbook
✔ Gain some basic supervised driving experience if possible
✔ Bring your learner permit and logbook (or myLearners app)

Being prepared will help you get the most out of your lesson from the start.

What do I need to do to pass my driving test and obtain my P1 licence?

To be eligible for your P1 licence, you must:

✔ Hold your learner permit for the required period
✔ Complete at least 120 hours of supervised driving
✔ Pass the hazard perception test
✔ Successfully complete your driving test

Consistent practice and structured lessons will help you build the skills and confidence required to pass.

Do you provide preparation for the VicRoads driving test?

Yes. Lessons are structured to prepare you for your VicRoads driving test, including exposure to common test routes, road conditions and scenarios in areas such as Carlton, Bundoora and Coolaroo.

Can I use your vehicle for my driving test?

Yes. Driving test packages are available and include the use of our vehicle, along with guidance and support on the day of your test. We also prepare you for VicRoads test locations such as Carlton, Bundoora and Coolaroo.

Am I covered by insurance during lessons?

Yes. A-Class Drive Academy is fully insured, and all lessons are conducted in a safe and controlled environment with a qualified driving instructor.

How can I pay for my lessons?

Payment can be made directly to your instructor via:

✔ EFTPOS (surcharge may apply)

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes. Gift vouchers are available and can be purchased for any number of lessons, making them a great gift for new drivers.

What should I bring to my lesson?

Please bring:

✔ Your learner permit

✔ Comfortable clothing and suitable footwear
✔ Glasses or sunglasses if required
